A visit to the Vasco da Gama Aquarium is the starting point to discover a world full of colour and life. Those responsible for school visits can choose between different types of visit:
free visit
The teacher or accompanying person is responsible for accompanying and guiding the students during the visit. The visit should be planned in advance by the teacher or accompanying person, so we recommend that they visit us beforehand. By looking through the information available on this website, you will be able to document the history, permanent exhibition and complementary activities developed at this institution, as well as many topics as part of the Biology of Aquatic Animals. You can also print out a number of worksheets that will help you to prepare the visit.
The price is 2 € per student .
guided tours
Guided tours are organised for groups with a minimum of 15 students and have an individual price of €8 per student during weekdays. For each group of 10 students, the Vasco da Gama Aquarium offers admission to 1 accompanying teacher.
We offer guided tours on the following themes:
"A Sea of..."
Students are invited to dive To discover life in the aquatic environment. Objects of interest from a museological point of view are associated with the building itself and its history and its living exhibit.
Different topics will be covered depending on the level of education:
- A Sea of Shapes: focused on the diversity of shapes and colours of aquatic animals (Pre-school and grades 1 to 4).
- A Sea of Diversity: focused on the diversity of animal groups that live in the aquatic environment (grades 5 and 6).
- A Sea of Adaptations: focused on the diversity of adaptation strategies of aquatic animals aimed at survival (grades 7 to 9).
- A Sea Without Waste: focused on how humans interact with the aquatic environment and the impacts that result from this interaction. (Secondary).
“A Sea of Stories”
Grades 1 to 4 / grades 5 and 6 / grades 7 to 9 / Secondary
This guided tour aims to explore the Museum's exhibition based on the story of the Prince who dreamt of the bottom of the sea. Students will be invited to embark on the adventure of discovering the bottom of the sea in the late 19th century through the oceanographic campaigns carried out by King Carlos, the father of Portuguese Oceanography. During the visit, students will be led to reflect on the evolution of the concept of naturalist and the relationship between humanity and the natural environment, from then to the present day.
