As part of the project 'Ex-situ Conservation of River Organisms', developed in partnership with Quercus, ISPA and FMV, we participate in the captive breeding and restocking of endemic freshwater fish species.
Each year, the tanks are prepared for the breeding season, the specimens are captured, counted, measured, weighed, and marked, and the occurrences of reproduction and larvae are logged. Reproduction conditions are monitored with water quality control analyses and the identification of the plankton that is naturally present in the tanks and is potential food for the larvae.
When conditions are favourable and upon authorisation from the responsible authorities, we carry out restocking activities with specimens born in captivity in previous breeding seasons.
