Part of the charm of the Vasco da Gama Aquarium lies precisely in this atmosphere that crosses different periods in the history of science communication. Created in the 1980s between older areas, this space was quickly dubbed the 'New Room'.
The hall displays exotic shells, specimens of water birds from the King's Collection and magnificent specimens and reproductions of marine mammals found on our shores.
This exhibition also features three thematic dioramas: the Mediterranean Monk Seal, the Brown Fur Seal, and the Otter.
More than merely observing naturalised specimens behind display windows, they invite you to enter these natural landscapes for a few moments.
