The Wind Octet is a formation originating from the period of Musical Classicism.
It is formed by pairs of instruments, usually the soloists of the Orchestras or Bands to which they belong.
Its natural composition is 2 Oboes, 2 Clarinets, 2 Bassoons, and 2 French Horns.
Having a formation where the main instruments of the orchestra (wind instruments) are represented makes it undoubtedly attractive to perform, for example, transcriptions of orchestral works, in addition to original works (which are fortunately numerous).
For many years, the Navy Band has given rise to various Wind Chamber Music groups, including the Octet. However, its formation varied over time according to the musicians who were available to be part of it.
Even since it was set up with this formation, it has always been ready to represent the Navy Band by performing in concerts abroad, mainly in places where it is physically impossible for the Navy Band to play.
The Navy Band's Wind Octet has performed in several concerts in the military context, mainly in the Chamber Music days, organised by the Navy Cultural Commission and events in military units.
The Navy Band's Wind Octet performs on stage as follows:
1st Oboe – 2nd Oboe – 2nd French Horn – 1st French Horn – 1st Bassoon – 2nd Bassoon – 2nd Clarinet – 1st Clarinet
