Acquisitions

ACQUISITIONS

One of the core functions of the Historical Archive is the active preservation of its documentary heritage, which should always be considered from a proactive and not merely passive perspective.

The Historical Archive promotes the acquisition of documentary collections from individuals and families, which, due to their cultural significance and relevance to the preservation and understanding of the memory of the Navy, the Sea, and Portugal, have acquired the right to be preserved and disseminated.

Acquisition is the procedure aimed at obtaining documents. Acquisition covers three options: purchase, donation, and exchange.

DONATIONS

A donation is the acquisition/disposal of the custody of documents, free of charge, and may include some commitments between the donor and the Archive. In other words, it is the offer of documents by natural or legal persons.

The offer of documents to the Historical Archive complies with the rules for the acquisition of documentary collections of the BCM - Historical Archive.
