The revolution of 5 October 1910 marked the establishment of the Republic in Portugal and the end of a monarchical regime that had lasted for more than seven centuries. A feeling of dissatisfaction with King Carlos, which had been spreading for several years and reached its peak with the English Ultimatum, culminated in the regicide of 1908, with the death of the king and his son and heir, Prince Luís Filipe de Bragança. The new sovereign, King Manuel - Carlos' second son - held the crown until the fall of the monarchy.
At dawn on 4 October 1910, a republican revolutionary movement emerged from the cruiser Adamastor, which culminated on the following day - 5 October.
The new Portuguese flag, the one that is still used today, was only officially presented a few months after the establishment of the Republic, on 1 December 1910.
