The Small Antares Patrol Boat 'Vega' was added to the Navy's fleet on 10 December 1959. She was transported in a merchant ship to Mormugao (India), where her mission was to carry out inspections in the maritime area of Goa. On 18 December 1961, the 'Vega' was in Diu (India).
Her Commander, 2nd Lieutenant Oliveira e Carmo, immediately realised that the territories of the Portuguese State in India were being invaded by the Indian Union, and decided to make arrangements for a confrontation. With the support of the fortress of Diu, one of the main targets of the Indian aviation, 'Vega' was involved in the fight against the invading forces. She was under severe attack from the Indian aircraft squadron and was eventually lost in combat. Her commander, along with two other members of the garrison, perished in the battle.
