Royal Cabins Room

In this room, one can admire the Royal Cabins used by King Carlos of Portugal and Queen-consort Amélie of Orleans on board of the yacht “Amélia”, salvaged from it when it was paid off by the Navy in 1938, as well as porcelains, crystal-ware and silverware that were used in the royal yacht.

The room also serves the purpose of displaying King Carlos’ prolific life work in the fields of painting, drawing, and oceanographic research, a testament to the King’s maritime calling– in fact, the “Amélia” was the last to be used in D. Carlos’ pioneering oceanographic campaigns.

Following the English style, the cabins provided a comfortable and private environment for the royal couple, despite the ship not surpassing 70 meters in length. They allow us a rare glimpse into the private life of the Portuguese Royal Family, through the furniture, decoration and personal objects present.
