Plankton - a group of living creatures, almost all of them small, which float and move passively, carried by currents in oceans and lakes - is the basis of the food chain. According to its composition, plankton can be: Phytoplankton (microscopic plants) and Zooplankton (microscopic animals). By producing plankton, the Vasco da Gama Aquarium establishes the complete marine food chain, a crucial factor in increasing the longevity of some species of marine invertebrates, and also an important part of the first feeding phase of fry (larval stages of fish) of some species reproduced in the Aquarium. The production of plankton is the responsibility of the Chemistry Office of the Vasco da Gama Aquarium.
