The chemical control of water quality in the aquariums and the different circuits of the Vasco da Gama Aquarium is the responsibility of the Chemistry and Pathology Office. This office periodically collects water samples at different points of the circuits and filters. The samples are then analysed in order to determine a number of physical-chemical parameters such as temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, phosphates, hardness, carbon dioxide, salinity, etc...
Knowing the levels of these parameters allows us to control the quality of the water according to the requirements of the different species, control the efficiency of the filtration systems, and check the balance or imbalance of the aquarium.
