Sextant used by Commander Roberto Ivens in the exploration trips he conducted in the African continent, along with Hermenegildo Capelo. This instrument was a part of the Ivens family estate, at a point belonging to Peter Ernest Eiffe, a nephew of Admiral Guilherme Ivens Ferraz and an Officer of the German Navy during the 1st World War, commanding submarines. After the war, the sextant returned to Portugal and was eventually gifted to the Maritime Museum, on the day of the first centenary of the voyage from Angola to the East Coast, in 1985.
