Throughout its 35 years of existence, between 1917 and 1952, the aircrafts used by Naval Aviation reflect the rapid evolution of the military aeronautical industry. In fact, during this period, 34 significantly different types of aircrafts entered into service.
These ranged from airplanes with a wooden hull and canvas wings to devices made entirely of cutting-edge metallic alloys, and a similarly quick evolution was witnessed in terms of engine power, communication systems, and armament.
This diversity represented an enormous logistical effort, both in terms of maintenance services and in terms of the training and instruction provided to naval pilots, whose knowledge was required to be always up to date.
